What's actually on your roof
Gloeocapsa magma is a cyanobacteria that arrived in Florida decades ago and never left. It feeds on the limestone filler manufacturers blend into asphalt shingles, and it spreads by airborne spores — which is why the streaks run downward with the water, and why once a house on your street has it, the rest of the street gets it too.
Scrubbing or blasting the surface removes the color. It does not remove the organism. That's the whole reason a "cleaned" roof looks streaked again within a season or two.

Strips the protective granules off your shingles, drives water up under the courses, and shortens the life of the roof. The streaks come back anyway. Manufacturers have denied warranty claims over exactly this.

The pressure stays low on all of them. What changes is the mix and the dwell time.
The classic black-streak roof. Treated at low pressure so the granules — the layer doing the actual protecting — stay exactly where the manufacturer put them.
Standing seam and corrugated. Growth comes off along with the chalky oxidation film, and we keep the solution off the fasteners and any exposed galvanized edge.
Porous, heavy, and easy to break by walking wrong. We work off the roof where we can and treat the tile without blowing out the mortar or the underlayment.
Modified bitumen and rolled sections over lanais and additions. These hold water and grow the fastest, and they're usually the part nobody looks at until it's black.
The black vertical tiger striping on the outside of your gutters isn't the same thing as roof algae, and it doesn't come off in a rinse. We hand-treat it while we're up there.
Where mildew hides from the rain and nothing ever washes it off naturally. Included with the roof rather than quoted as an extra.

Every plant below the roofline gets soaked with clean water and covered before anything is mixed. Then the solution goes on, does its work, and gets rinsed down thoroughly — plants included, a second time.

Questions
The opposite. Low-pressure cleaning with an approved solution is the method the asphalt shingle industry itself recommends for algae removal. High-pressure washing is what strips granules and gives a manufacturer grounds to deny a claim.
In this climate, most roofs stay clean for two to three years. It depends on shade — a roof under oaks with poor airflow will regrow faster than one in full sun. Anyone promising you a permanent fix is selling something.
Not when it's done properly. Plants get soaked with clean water before we start and again after — a saturated plant won't take up the solution, and dilution handles the rest. Delicate beds get covered. This is the step careless outfits skip, and it's why some people have a bad story about soft washing.
As little as possible. Most of the work is done from ladders and the ground with equipment built to reach. On tile especially, foot traffic is the main way roofs get damaged during a cleaning, so we stay off it wherever the layout lets us.
No, as long as we have access to an outdoor spigot and you've told us about anything unusual beforehand. Most people are at work. We'll send photos when it's finished.
It comes down to square footage, pitch, number of stories and how long it's been. A single-story ranch and a two-story tile roof are very different jobs. We'll give you a firm number before we start, and it doesn't move unless you add work.
